Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Hyderabad Coronavirus July 28 Updates: 7,948 fresh cases; We have to live with coronavirus, says AP CM

In Telangana, of the 1,473 fresh cases, 506 were from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), followed by Ranga Reddy (168), Warangal Urban (111) and Sangareddy (98) districts, a state government bulletin said on Monday.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday said we have to live with coronavirus as the infection spread continued its steep upward climb in the state with the addition of 7,948 new cases taking the tally to 1,10,297. The active cases stood at 56,527 and the number of recovered at 52,622 while the toll rose to 1,148 with 58 fresh deaths. The Chief Minister claimed AP was the only state that was conducting over 50,000 tests for the virus daily at the rate of 32,761 per million population.

Telangana reported 1,610 new cases and 9 fatalities in the last 24 hours, the state government’s Covid-19 bulletin said on Tuesday. The total case count in the state stands at 57,142 out of which 13,753 are active cases. Telangana’s recovery rate is 75.1% and over 42,000 people have seen recovery. Till now 480 people have succumbed to the virus in the state.

Andhra Pradesh on Monday crossed the one lakh mark in COVID-19 cases, with over 6,000 people testing positive as the rapid spread of the infection in recent days continued unabated. The states COVID-19 count doubled in just about eight days as the day’s 6,051 cases pushed the tally to 1,02,349. It had crossed the 50,000 mark on July 20.

According to the latest bulletin, 49 fresh deaths were reported in the state, taking the coronavirus toll to 1,090. In the last 24 hours, 3,234 patients were discharged from hospitals upon recovery. The state now has 51,701 active cases after a total of 49,558 patients had recovered, the bulletin said.

Telangana lists 1,057 containment zones; Mahabubnagar tops with 192, Medchal-Malkajgiri has none

Telangana's health department on Tuesday listed 1,057 containment zones nearly 5 months after it reported its first case in Hyderabad. This comes after repeated criticism from the Telangana High Court that has been directing the state to reveal all necessary information about the COVID-19 situation.

According to the list, Mahabubnagar district tops the list with 192 containment zones, followed by Rangareddy with 164 containment zones. The jurisdiction of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is third in the list of maximum containment zones with 92 areas.(Read Rahul V Pisharody's report here)

Telangana: Over 15,800 samples tested in the last 24 hours

According to Telangana's covid-19 bulletin, 15,839 samples were tested on July 27. Till now the state has tested 3.79 lakh people. Testing was ramped up since May when the state started experiencing a rapid surge in new coronavirus cases. 

The bulletin also said 320 rapid antigen testing centres have been set up in the government sector.The government ensured that sufficient beds are available in government hospitals for treating covid patients.

The total case count in the state stands at 57,142 out of which 13,753 are active cases. Telangana's recovery rate is 75.1% and over 42,000 people have seen recovery. Till now 480 people have succumbed to the virus in the state.

Avra Laboratories gets CDSCO nod to make Favipiravir API

Hyderabad based Avra Laboratories Pvt Ltd has been granted regulatory approval by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) to manufacture and market Favipiravir API, which will help patients suffering from COVID-19.

The company, in a press release, said it has developed an alternative low cost and highly efficient manufacturing process and is now supplying commercial quantities to drug maker Cipla for the launch of Ciplenza, the generic version of Favipiravir.

A V Rama Rao, Chairman, Avra Laboratoriessaid, "I am very pleased to be working with Cipla and Dr Yusuf Hamied again, with whom I share a five decade long association and friendship, during which time we collaborated on several projects to produce lifesaving drugs, including anti-cancer, anti-HIV/AIDS and several other generic products.(PTI)

AP fastest-growing state, records daily growth rate of 10%

Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka continue to be among the fastest-growing states in the country. Andhra Pradesh, in fact, is now seeing its cases grow by almost 10 per cent per day. Tamil Nadu has also begun to accelerate. It has reported more than 6,000 cases every day for the last five days, while before that its daily numbers used to be well below 5,000. Bihar, in the meanwhile, has witnessed an almost four-fold increase in its cases this month, from less than 10,000 to almost 40,000 now.

India coronavirus numbers explained: Non-metro cities power Andhra Pradesh’s surge

East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, with the coastal town of Kakinada and Rajamundhry as its main urban centres, is now home to possibly the highest number of novel Coronavirus infected people outside of the big metropolitan and tier-I cities.

More than 13,000 people in the district have so far been found infected, with half of them having been detected just in the last one week, during which Andhra Pradesh has seen an explosive growth of cases. With more than 7,500 new cases on Sunday, Andhra Pradesh has now overtaken Karnataka to become the state with the fourth-largest caseload in the country, after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi. It has over 96,000 confirmed infections now.

Andhra Pradesh has been an exception to the trend in most of the other parts of the country in which a bulk of the infections have been found to be concentrated in and around the biggest urban centre. 80,000 cases in July, Andhra orders Remdesivir doses

With the number of critical Covid-19 patients and deaths from the infection in Andhra Pradesh rising sharply, along with a jump of over 80,000 in the overall number of cases this month, the state government has ordered 90,000 doses of anti-viral drug Remdesivir.

According to official data, 1,041 deaths have been reported in the state so far — 707 of them from July 13 to 25. The case count in the state has gone up from 14,515 on June 30 to 96,298 as of July 26. Hetero Pharma will deliver the first consignment of 15,000 doses this week while the remaining will be delivered over the next three weeks, according to officials. Read more here

Karnataka reports high number of COVID-19 cases, marginal dip in other southern states

Andhra Pradesh also witnessed a minor dip on Sunday when compared to the infected persons on Saturday or Friday, but the state still reported cases in excess of 7,000 for the third day. AP's daily virus load stood at 7,627 on Sunday while it recorded 7,813 cases yesterday.

Telangana reported over 1,500 cases, taking the tally past 54,000. The bulk of infections came from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. The 5,199 cases in Karnataka on Sunday pushed the overall tally to 96,141 whereas 82 deaths took the fatalities to 1,878, according to the health department. --PTI

A 101-year-old woman, P Mangamma of Tirupati, came out triumphant in her battle against Covid-19. She was admitted to the state Covid hospital in Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences a few days ago and was discharged on Saturday evening after she recovered fully, hospital medical superintendent Dr Ram said in a release.

"She was very bold all through her stay in the isolation ward in the hospital and successfully battled the pandemic. She should be an inspiration for others on how to remain brave in the fight against the pandemic," the medical superintendent said.

In Telnagana, according to the bulletin, the state has 61 government COVID-19 designated hospitals and 55 private hospitals treating the virus patients with a total of 17,081 beds. Of them 14,947 beds, including 1,299 in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 2,347 with oxygen facility, were vacant, it said.
